The biggest lava cave in Iceland, the most powerful hot spring, warm natural baths and stunning cascades and waterfalls. First we start our journey in Borgarnes village, that some state is the most beautifully located populated site in Iceland. The cliffs by the sea shore are breathtaking. The Settlement Center is a good choice for a nice lunch and to learn about the interesting story of the Vikings and settlement of Iceland.

Then we drive into the fjord, Borgarfjordur, where we visit the biggest hot spring in Europe; Deildartunguhver and here you have the option of rejuvenating in Krauma natural spa and baths, as pure and authentic as it gets, the geothermal energy coming right from the lava for you to enjoy!

The breathtaking waterfalls of Childrens falls (Barnafosssar) and Lava falls (Hraunfossar) is our next stop, they lie next to each other and while they differ in every way, shape and form, together they make a stunning site of unique water art in the lava.

Víðgelmir is one of the largest lava caves in Iceland, located in the Borgarfjörður region. It was formed by volcanic activity approximately 1,200 years ago and is part of a fascinating landscape filled with geological wonders. We take on a journey inside the cave with a professional cave guide who informs about geological features and history. The headlights and helmet, and the man built stairway make it a safe and enjoyable journey of a lifetime straight into the earth…

Deildartunguhver hot spring
Deildartunguhver Hot Spring is one of the most powerful hot springs in Europe, known for its impressive flow of hot water, which is used for heating in nearby towns. Krauma natural baths are right there beside it, where you can enjoy this natural wonder and enjoy the best greens, grown in greenhouses around, also heated with the geothermal water.
Hraunfossar - Lava falls
Located right next to each other these series of waterfalls are a breathtaking sight. Hraunfossar Waterfall are a series of waterfalls formed by water flowing over a lava field, creating a peaceful pretty sight with the clear turquoise waters.
Barnafossar - Childrens falls
Barnafossar or Childrens falls are located right next to Hraunfossar and features turbulent water flowing through a narrow canyon.
Lava Cave Vidgelmir
Víðgelmir is one of the largest lava caves in Iceland, located in the Borgarfjörður region. It was formed by volcanic activity approximately 1,200 years ago and is part of a fascinating landscape filled with geological wonders. Inside the cave, you can see ice formations and various lava structures that showcase the dynamic volcanic activity that created it.
Borgarnes village
Borgarnes is a beautiful village with its hollows and cliffs. We stop for coffee and even more if you are interested in Icelandic history and about the settlement of Iceland, since the Settlement Center is located right there, with great lunch options.

Reykholt and Snorri Sturluson
Reykholt is a cute village, a historical site that was once home to the famous scholar Snorri Sturluson who lived there over a thousand years ago. You can visit the Snorrastofa Cultural Center to learn about his interesting life and works, stories on life before in viking times and poetry. The natural pool of Snorri is still there and his statue is a monument in regards of the important historical documentations and stories Snorri left us with.

Krauma baths use the naturally heated water from Europe's most powerful hot spring, Deildartunguhver, located right there beside it, with a temperature of 100°C (212°F). The hot water is cooled to achieve the perfect bathing temperature with cold ground water from under a glacier nearby. The geothermal water is very rich in various minerals as well as algae which gives your skin the best of feeling. The spa offers 5 different hot baths and one cold plunge bath, all providing a range of benefits for the skin and body.
